South Bank Corporation has begun recruiting participants for this year’s, mid-year food extravaganza, Regional Flavours, to be held on Saturday 24 July from 10am – 3pm. We are interested in your involvement as the regional representative(s) for the Brisbane region because we believe your insight, expertise and local knowledge will enable us deliver an outstanding experience for regions and visitors alike.
Regional Flavours 2010 wants to bring the top regional growers and producers from across South East Queensland into the heart of Brisbane. This year’s event will have a dual focus: we will be showcasing gourmet regional produce and equipping our visitors with helpful ideas about environmentally food conscious choices. Brisbane locals are well versed in seeking-out regional delicacies and boutique Queensland food and wine but this year we’d like to start introducing some deeper concerns into the mix.
South Bank Corporation has put sustainability high on our agenda. Regional Flavours for 2010 offers us the opportunity to encourage our visitors to incorporate as many green ideas into their daily lives as possible. To this end, we are interested in hearing about the sorts of green/environmental ideas producers have introduced into their farming practices, food conscious information that could be incorporated into this year’s event. Perhaps your region has made a concerted push towards using more environmental production, if so we’d love to know all about it. If not, let’s think about some ways that we can begin to frame Regional Flavours as both gourmet and ‘green’. We’d like to push the boundaries even further and enhance visitors’ experience by providing interpretive elements around our sustainable agenda. Think entertainment and interaction within the green theme – is there anyone in your region who fits this bill?
With your assistance we would like to recruit participants with the best gourmet and green credentials. To start this process, please start thinking about the following possible themes and ideas to incorporate:
Have any of your regions’ producers implemented changes to their production cycle that has a green angle? Examples of this may include incorporating solar power, or soil regeneration.
Are there any regional environmental achievements that deserve recognition? Perhaps a local producer has been awarded in their field or made a research breakthrough – we’d be interested in having them speak or providing a platform for their material.
Would regional growers like to partner with a Little Stanley Street hospitality outlet for the day to showcase their produce and highlight the ‘slow food’ movement?
Does your region have any producer and/or supplier programs that aim to increase sustainability in the region that could educate and inspire Regional Flavours visitors’?
Are there any unique entertainment acts or educative programs within your region that may be interested in attending?
We’re also interested in any wine and craft beer producers who could present an appreciation or tasting session, in line with the ‘green’ focus.
We look forward to receiving your responses and if you have any questions please contact the Regional Flavours Coordinator, Teesha Melville, on 07 3867 2015.
